HeartCry

HeartCryPaul Washer founded HeartCry Missionary Society ("HeartCry") in 1988 during his 10 years spent as a missionary in the jungles of Peru.

HeartCry supports indigenous missionaries* in Africa (Kenya, Malawi, Namibia), Southeast Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia), Eastern Europe (Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia), Middle East (Lebanon, Israel), and South America (Peru, Argentina).

Strengths

•  HeartCry relies entirely on the Lord for provision and neither fundraises nor promotes itself.

•  The money to support one Western missionary (family) in the developing world can support about twenty indigenous missionaries, who also do not require language or cultural training. Indigenous missionaries also do not import denominationalism or health & prosperity false gospel from the West (the theology of Paul Washer and HeartCry is refreshingly Biblical).

•  Instead of giving, HeartCry sells Bibles for this stated reason: "We sell our Bibles at a discount rate rather than giving them away for free. We take great pains to insure that no genuine believer leaves without a Bible, but we do require that something of value be given. We have given Scripture in return for chickens, fish, coffee beans, etc. By purchasing the Bible instead of receiving it as charity, the believer’s personal dignity and sense of responsibility remain intact. The believer’s offering is used to purchase more Bibles for other believers."

Weakness

•  HeartCry should expand into more countries, including China and the Muslim nations of the Middle East.

* Born, raised and serve in the same country (e.g., a native Namibian who serves in Namibia.)
