Quran 4:34

When husbands feel their wives are being unsubmissive and arrogant, Quran 4:34 instructs them to first warn their wives. If their warning is not heeded, husbands are to withhold sex from their wives. If that still doesn't work, the husbands are to then "strike" their wives:

"But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them." - Quran 4:34

In Dubai, where Sharia law is applied the least strictly among the Muslim nations of the Middle East, husbands are to be "gentle" as they "whip" their wives into submission:
